In the last few days, I have gotten numerous emails and phone calls from clients asking about a form they received in the mail that appears to be the Annual Report form we file for hundreds of our business clients. The mailing is from Corporate Records Service and requests the business recipient to fill out an “Annual Minutes Record Form” and pay a $125.00 fee.
NO SUCH FORM OR FEE IS REQUIRED BY ILLINOIS LAW.
The form looks very similar to the real Annual Report form that IS required to be filed each year with the Illinois Secretary of State. Many of our clients have been fooled by this mailing. The mailing comes in a green envelope and indicates the $125 fee must be paid by November 9, 2012. This scam is being done in at least 10 different states that we have heard. If you get an “official looking” communication, please contact us. If you have already paid the fee, please contact us so we can get your information to the Illinois Secretary of State’s Business Services Office which is investigating this matter.
